Mackerel Tabby - Garn

mackerel tabby - garn
Garn which means "pattern" in Thai North-East dialect. I picked her up from my roof. Her mother left her since she was a little kitten. She came in pack of 3. Another 2 kittens are Mr.Don and Mrs.Hangdaab. Anyway, I don't know her mother. I'm not even met her mother, too.

mackerel tabby - garn
Garn is a moody cat. She hates male cats and always got angried when she saw her housemates.

Garn don't like to be rubbed at her head. If you did it. She will runaway. Garn usually spent her time during the day on the dinning table. But will turn to be a wild cat during the night(That's the most of the cats habit in the night).

Cat Scratch Problem

My 7 cats scratch most of my furniture everyday. For me, I don't think it's a problem. But someone might not agree with me. Below is some information about Cat Scratch Problem.

Why Cat Scratch?
Scratching just like Yoga in Cat Point Of View. Scrathing will works many muscles of your cat and also strecth. Scratching will leave unique scent from special glands in cat's paws into the object. This could be called "Territory Marking". Not only scent, Scratching also do a Visual Marking, also.

If you look precisely at your cat's nail. You will see outer sheath covers each nail. Under these sheath are new, sharp nails. Scratching will shed this sheath off. This is the way a cat's nails grow and renew themselves.

Scratching also make cat feel comfortable. Especially, After snoozing. Just like singing when you are in the bathroom.

How to Stop Cat to Scrath?
There is no way you can stop your cat to scratch. But you can make them scratch something else that you allow your cat to scratch such as Scratching Post, Tree logs, TV Package etc.

Your cat will not scratch the post immediately. You should place scratching post near the object that they usually scratch ex. couch. It can be any place that your cat spent most of its time.
If your cat is starting to scratch the couch. Use you voice loudly to stop them. You can use spray bottle, too.
You should not punish your cat by hitting or any physically harm. This only make your cat mistrust you and fear of you.

Tips for buying Cat Scratching Post
There are many type of scratching post in the market. Most of the cat prefer vertical cat scratching post. But only some of it can accept scratching pad.

You should not buy a cheap, small, scratching post. Most of them are not stable enough. Scratching post sould be secure and not shaking while cat scratch.

Moreover, Buy a tall scratching post that allow your cat's body to fully extend while scratching.
